A’oodubillahi Min al Shaytani al Rajeem

BismillahiRahmaniRaheem

We are on our journey among all the supplications in the Quran or in the Prophetic traditions. We are also trying to learn the lessons and the very meaning of these supplications.

There is one supplication which is very deep and full of lessons for us for today and tomorrow. During Ramadan and beyond Ramadan, it has to do with our life, our heart, our mind and our very self.

The supplication in the Quran is Rabbanaa zalam’naa Anfusanaa wa in lam taufir lanaa lanakoonanna minal khasireen. “Lord, we have done injustice to our very self. If you don’t forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly have a great loss. “

Here, we come back to ourselves and acknowledge that we have been unjust and unfair. We have prayed and fasted. There should be something beyond them. We must think that Allah gave us a mind. Have we been respectful towards our mind by trying to educate it? He gave us a heart. Have we been just and fair to our heart by trying to reform and purify it so as to become better persons? He gave us a body. Are we respecting our body in the way we treat our body? For example, when you smoke, it is an act full of disrespect to your body. The main thing is to protect a healthy body. If you smoke you act against your health. That is why it goes against respecting yourselves and being just to yourselves with your mind, with your heart, with your body and with the way you deal with other people.

Here we acknowledge the fact that we have been unfair and we acted against our own interests. We come to Allah saying that if He does not forgive us and show mercy on us, we are going to be lost. We are going to forget the very essence of our life. It is a very deep act or attitude of humility and, at the same time, commitment to take care of ourselves and what was given to us. For, one day we will come back to Him and ask for His mercy and forgiveness and ask Him to help us and not to neglect us.

Remember that you don’t forget to tell the people you love that you love them because it is all about being fair to yourselves.

Assalamu Alaikum
