  1. Dear Tariq,

Freedom of expression? Yes! But not as freedom to hurt.

All religions, inclusive my own, Buddhadharma (Buddhism), have a “hard” and a “soft” side. Deep religion is soft and express compassion and insight, and practice within the great tradition of no-self and no-other.

In the case of Paris, Copenhagen, and Oslo (not to forget!) terrorist attacks, it seems to me that these outrageous attacks have many complex causes: male aggression, alienation, criminality, cultural poverty, exclusion (racism), and helplessness. Perhaps these attacks also have an ingredient of suicide, aggression against the self. All expressions of our confused times, but hardly as expressions of any religion.

Underneath the current wave of terror, we find a culture – our own – that have organized and financed war as industry, hierachy, dominance, imperialism, aiming at world hegemony. With our lifestyle, we are part of it.

We can clearly see that climate change, fossil fuels, the threat of nuclear weapons, overpopulation, depletion of natural resources must be taken care of with insight and include all peoples. I doubt that the dominant hierachies (political, economical, military) will act with insight and relevance to meet these challenges.

We are already well informed, well educated, we don’t need more “information”. May global peace consciousness speak out and act.

Peace is spelled equality and equity. Let’s make them possible!

    Cheers, Björn Lindgren

  2. Salaam Alaikom,

Sometimes it feels like, as Muslims, we are talking around in circles and not being genuinely listened to when we condemn violent attacks and assert that this is not Islam… You are doing a difficult job, may God help you.

Thank you for all your efforts.

  3. Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
I don’t believe that truly we have freedom of anything otherwise there would be no rules set. We all have guidelines and laws to follow. Some countries are more restrictive than others.
People are not free to go topless, unless it’s like on a specific beach in Jamaica in isolation, or I suppose on beaches in Europe, and maybe other places I don’t know about.
I personally think laws need to be enacted that DO limit what can be said and cannot be said when it comes to religion. Religions should not be mocked. It’s the respectful thing to do, and if we are trying to live in a civilized respectable society, then I believe these laws should exist, which could prevent a lot of nonsensical violence from those who don’t know how to control themselves and act out in rage and harm others.
Freedom? Not really. We would like to think we are free, but all in all, we belong to The Creator. We are just here for a time. One thing I know for certain is that I will die, just like all my past relatives who are gone, and great thinkers and leaders who are gone. We, too, shall be gone. It’s the time given to us, that we have to try and utilize in a respectable and honorable manner while we are here.
We need to teach this to our children, so they don’t go running off like some FAD thing to do. These 3 girls missing from the UK…..who allows a 15 year old to board a plane without supervision anyways!!!
    Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
    Laura

  4. Since a year at least I intend to write a comment about the latest ” freedom of speech” campaign to our daily newspaper. However – since i know my comment would never be published in a newspaper controlled by Zionists – here is my idea:

Only a mentally sick person keeps irritating an angry dog , gets bitten and then irritate again and again and then march in Paris or elsewhere in order to defend some freedom of speech.

Tariq – tu es No. 1 – que le Dieu te protège.
    Milan Amin
