Press Release: Professor Tariq Ramadan sent a Letter to Indonesian President to stop Executions

lettre indo 2

01/08/2016 – Professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford Tariq Ramadan urges president of Indonesia Joko Widodo to stop executions

The execution spree in Indonesia has moved Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan to urge the government to end the death penalty for drug offenders as it does not reflect traditional or Islamic values.

The professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford, UK, wrote a personal letter to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Sunday (July 31), saying Islamic law “calls for forgiveness and mercy. Above and beyond all of this, raḥmah [compassion] is an absolute necessity, an essential principle, an imperative duty, even if there is no doubt and all the conditions are gathered.”

  1. After seeing the title and reading the news of this warning message, I see Prof.Ramadan’s sensibility about the execution as a punishment. Unfortunately, that’s a traditional way to stop the criminal things historically. It should be find another way to punish for drug user, not traffickers who make some weak people addict and abuse their mind/humanity.
Drug/cocaine is unsolved big question in the East that is unhealthy and a reason to turn our peaceful world to a criminal one. Do you think how many people’s mind became a slave of this drug/cocaine and lost their humanity last years. Are you sure of protecting the right of the drug ab/user by thinking of destroying all peaceful societies, or shall we save our innocent children/youth from drug abuser/traffickers
I wish you should have shown a way to solve this drug issue ethically based on Quran, and let us know if there’s any forbiding ayah/proof about the execution as a punishment in this message. Every country has their own real rules that is based on their common sense&value. If there’s no forbidden in Quran, for muslims, no one in the other country cannot say any word ethically about the rules according to the western approach to Islam that you know about..
I’m looking forward to your open warning message to US about Shakeer brother who imprisoned and tortured for 14 years without any charge in Quantonomo based on the western humanrights, and also for others (killing the blind imam in Finsbury Park, burning 5 masjeeds in London)
May love&bless and help&preserve you/us by removing all wrongdoings/misconceptions and hardships/troubles in Allah’s mercy and goodness ameen

    Wassalam
