What is the State of Islam in Today’s South Africa?

  1. What came out from the interview for me is that the funders of the Darul Ulooms, Mosques a Madressas are the wealthy Muslims and hence the Darul Uloom graduates and subsequent employees of these institutions are less likely to be critical of their paymasters and donors, while at at the same time are steeped in a very archaic and conservative brand of Islam which is unappealing to the mainstream South African society.

    • I am amazed at the choice of guest to speak on behalf of the South African Muslims. There are far better knowledgeable, eloquent and intelligent representatives who could have been interviewed. And to reiterate the above comment, the mindset of Islam amongst the Asian/Indian Muslim is generally very conservative which at times is in stark contrast to the flamboyant and contextual Islam of the Malays.
