About this event: Academic and activist discourses on human rights have developed largely without reference to the standpoints, interests, concerns and beliefs of non-Western people and traditions. Professor Twining’s book gives voice to the ideas of four jurists who present distinct ‘Southern’ perspectives on human rights, providing alternative viewpoints. The panel discussion aims to critique the book, examining issues such as Islam and human rights, women and human rights, and ethnocentrism and human rights.
