Presence Musulmane

Open Public Lecture

Muslim Presence Ottawa

invites you to join us on 13 October, 2005

at Carleton University,7:30 pm,  Alumni Auditorium for an important  lecture entitled:

« Security for Canada: an Islamic and Human Rights Perspective »

Keynote Speakers:

Professor Tariq Ramadan (nominated by Time magazine as one of the leading intellectuals of our time)

Alex Neve (Secretary General, Amnesty International Canada)

Why this topic ?

We know that the anti-terrorist legislation is currently up for review in Canada and is increasingly being adopted as a means of curbing extremism and terrorism.

We believe that  these measures in their application, stigmatize communities, erode civil liberties, institutionalize discrimination and allow unacceptable gaps with respect to human rights.

We call upon our fellow Canadian citizens, all citizens without exception, to exercise their obligation of critical vigilance and to oppose all security and political policies that are discriminatory and inhuman.

We hope that we can work together in determining alternative ways of addressing security concerns in a manner which is in keeping with our Canadian values.

We invite you to join us at this event and contribute to opening up the dialogue.  The debate is far from being closed.  The discussions-on the contrary, are only beginning.

When: October 13th, 7:30pm

Where: Carleton University, Alumni Theatre

Cost: $5 (tickets sold only at door, first come first serve)
