“New Challenges to Democracy in the 2lst Century. » will explore issues such as the democratic deficit in Western countries; the role of technology in helping (or hindering) democracy; globalization and its challenges to established democratic institutions; views on democracy outside the West; the ways Europe should support reform in undernocratic societies; the impact of terrorism on democracy; and how the relationship of religion and politics is being redefined.
