While currently in Berlin, I have met with German political figures and members of the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Spellbound I listened as they expounded on the power and glorious future of the Sarkozy-Merkel axis, and on the opportunity it represents for Europe. The alluring image of an all-conquering Germany that so fascinates French president Nicolas Sarkozy brought home to me the petty viciousness of the debate now raging in the last days before the second round of the French presidential election. My German interlocutors convinced me—unequivocally—that the president represents the good fortune, the best hope and the greatest blessing France, and all Europe, could possibly hope for. And in the same spirit I heard Nicolas Sarkozy’s ringing appeal for support, for assistance, for mobilization. How could one remain deaf to the call of leaders who shape History, who sacrifice their very beings to the nobility of their cause?
That is why today, from Berlin, profoundly convinced by the arguments of my German friends, I solemnly call upon all the people of France without exception, those who supported and voted for François Hollande or Marine Le Pen, for Jean-Luc Mélenchon or François Bayrou, and even for Philippe Poutou, to save France:
PEOPLE OF FRANCE!
On May 6,
VOTE FOR NICOLAS SARKOZY
Nicolas Sarkozy stands for dignity, for security! In France, in Germany, and abroad.
NB: One of my Berlin hosts, in persuading me to rally behind Mr. Sarkozy, expressed surprise at the obsessive nature of the French president’s relationship with me. “His hatred and resentment are fierce, deep, and uncontrollable,” he told me. Then, with a smile, he added: “I hope for your sake that nothing happens to you in France, that they don’t attempt to connect you with some sinister foreign preacher… You never know; there could be an accident, an unforeseen event, a terrorist act, something terrible…” I looked at him, surprised, and smiled. And whispered, raising my eyes toward the gleam of presidential dignity on the far horizon: “No doubt about it; MUST VOTE FOR SARKOZY 😉
I wonder if everyone will understand the cunning sarcasm of the article. Because if it is not sarcastic, it is the most ineffective call to vote for M. Sarkozy I have ever read.
Salam,
You forgot the smiley 😉 at the end.
Vous êtes un génie
I appreciate the irony : tomorrow, we’ll vote for Sarkozy so that he would be once for all out of France’s political life. ..
