Islam, the West and the Challenges of Modernity

Islam, the West and the Challenges of Modernity attempts to demonstrate, using sources which draw upon Islamic thought and civilisation, that Muslims have the means to respond to contemporary challenges without betraying their identity. The book argues that Muslims, nourished by their own points of reference, can approach the modern epoch by proposing a specific social, political and economic management that is linked to ethical values, a sense of finalities and spirituality. This still requires, however, that the Western interlocutors make a distinction between modernityand the ideology of modernismwhich tends to impose Westernisation. The latter, in its substance and other than in its well-intentioned discourse, does not admit the reality of the pluralism of civilisations, religions or cultures.

  1. Thank you mister Tariq Ramadan fo this revolutionary
book .I hope westerns will read it carrefully
and understand the message of peace within it dealing with our hard modernity which agress our humanity.
    Than you for your engagement

  2. With this innovating points of view wich takes it ressoures
in the islamic philosophy reference of conducting his life; we can understand your detractors saying you are a hidden linkked man
to the muslims brotherhood; what a big and fatal misunderstanding and a silly simplification .

And to your detractors may I say: first, read carefully
and understand the real meaning of those new ways of innovation western societies , and this is , objectively,
in their own interest, before criticizing blindnessely proposals of Sir Tarq Ramadan , the greatest oriental European,Europe has never known through it’s history,(an I am weighting my words, what a historical opportunity for Europe to have an true oriental citizen among it’s poeple). Instead of going on with collapsing their own economic, social, political and environemental
    system.
